RECAP of the 8th Annual Mining Day at the Capitol

Goal of event 

To raise awareness of mining’s role in the clean energy future among legislators and staff.

Target audience 

Legislature, legislative staff, Governor’s office, state and federal agencies, universities, students, industry partners such as SABC and the public. 

Event details 

March 27, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. Load-in began at 4:45 a.m. 

Description 

The free event featured hands-on activities and demonstrations by exhibitors who support the mining industry (mining companies, academia, non-profits, and state agencies) to share the importance of mining in society’s everyday lives and to showcase the vital role mining will play in clean energy technologies.

  1. 77 table displays representing 70 companies

John Deer 4060P Haul Truck, Teleo semi-autonomous van-simulator, wheel loader, RDO Equipment. 8’ x 20’ screen, Reuter Equipment. Powerscreen TrackPactor 320 Crusher, Powerscreen Western  
  3. 2 science experiment exhibiting areas by the University of Arizona 
  4. Luncheon for legislators, legislative staff, vendors 
  5. Ice cream truck for attendees hosted by AMIGOS  
  6. Student program 
      • Lunch for students sponsored by Geobrugg, Mining and Minerals Education Foundation, and Resolution Copper 
      • Coordination for students was made in conjunction with the Arizona Capitol Museum 
      • A student toolkit was provided to help maximize their experience 
      • Transportation provided to Hayden/Winkelman High School by ASARCO
